The wonderful team at Hope Community Clinic continues to provide for the healthcare needs of Rwentobo community and the surrounding area. We give thanks for:
- A generous donation of £3,000 was received from the Souter Trust in January to help to fund the salaries for the midwives as a fist step to increasing maternity services to include the delivery of babies.
- Midwife Brenda has now returned to the clinic, having been trained to use the ultrasound scanner which was donated for use in the clinic and the community. Photo below.
- The clinic team took part in a medical camp in an adjacent village on 25th January where they screened 108 people for various diseases and found 12 with hypertension, 2 with diabetes, 1 with HIV and 3 with signs of possible cervical cancer or pre-cancerous changes. Follow up was organised for all of these.
- Positive feedback was received from Dr Ian Spillman and Hanna who have been in Uganda for the last 3 months. They have been very encouraged to see the work at the clinic which is increasingly busy with some overnight admissions to manage the seriously ill.
Mission Rwentobo trustees and friends are hosting a musical fundraiser on 16th March in order to raise more funds for the extension of maternity services. This promises to be a good evening, including a variety of styles of music so please do come along and feel free to share this flyer and bring friends. Refreshments will be provided.Dr Ian Spillman and his wife, Hanna, hope to be able to join us following their recent return from 3 months in Uganda, spent mainly at Kisiizi Hospital which provides supervision and helps to manage the clinic. Dr Spillman will give a short talk about the progress at Kisiizi and the clinic and he never fails to inspire. If you are unable to attend but would like to contribute, please use the JustGiving link at the foot of this email or leave your contributions at Tonbridge Baptist Church, clearly labelled for this purpose.
Life in Uganda always has its challenges and sometimes we have to accept that things do not quite go to plan. We would therefore appreciate prayer regarding the following
- Kisiizi hospital as they cope with staff shortages in the finance department due to maternity leave for the finance officer and sick leave for her replacement due to a road traffic accident. Hanna Spillman was able to provide some cover while there and now Malcolm has traveled from UK to help out, but more local staff need to be recruited.
- The building engineer who is expected to do the work to repair the clinic walls and enhance the building to extend maternity services has been busy on another project which is nearly completed. Please pray that he or an alternative trustworthy engineer will soon be available to oversee the required work.
- We will be applying to the Jephcott Charitable Trust in March for funding towards the equipment and alterations needed for full maternity care. Please pray that the application will get a favorable response when considered in early April.
Many thanks for your support and prayers. We look forward to seeing you at the concert on March 16th if you are able to join us.
Kind regards from, Debbie Burke, on behalf of Mission Rwentobo.
